A group commander of Islamic State (IS) is among few more insurgents that have been killed on Wednesday night in the eastern Nangarhar province with Jalalabad as its capital, 120 km east of Kabul, spokesman for provincial police, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal told reporters here Thursday.

Units of police backed by the army, according to the official, raided IS hideout in Dashna Lagat village of Achin district late Wednesday night, killing few insurgents including a group commander named Jahid. He did not give exact number of casualties inflicted to IS.

Jahid, according to the police chief, was commandant of a 20-member group and his physical elimination is a major setback to the hardliner outfit.

Militants affiliated to IS group are yet to make comment.

Parts of Nangarhar province including Achin, Kot and Pachiragam have been the scene of IS activities over the past nearly two years. Endit
