Police "acted lawfully" in deadly shooting of North Carolina black man: prosecutor

A local prosecutor said Wednesday the police had "acted lawfully" when they in September shot and killed a black person in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"All of the credible and available evidence suggests that he was armed," Mecklenburg County District Attorney R.Andrew Murray said of Keith Scott, the victim.
Scott's family expressed their disappointment at the decision to drop charges, saying "We ask that everyone work together to fix the system that allowed this tragedy to happen in the first place."
Local police had previously released two videos recorded at the scene, and three photos of a handgun, a holster and marijuana that were allegedly recovered from Scott's body.
But the grainy videos failed to produce definitive proof whether Scott had a gun in hand at the time of the shooting.
Scott's family members maintained that he was holding a book, not a gun.
The incident created an uproar in Charlotte, heightening the distrust many locals hold against the police. Enditem
