The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu said he respects the judiciary after his earlier attack on judges caused a backlash in the southern African nation.

During a live interview on state broadcaster, Amos Chanda, the presidential spokesperson said, Lungu was concerned over the way some judges were conducting themselves in handling parliamentary petitions after the ruling party lost some seat after they were nullified.(Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The Zambian government has partnered with stakeholders in the country to give youths an opportunity to pursue their careers online.

Minister of Youth and Sports Moses Mawere said the online education platform would enhance youth participation in various economic sectors, which would help Zambia move towards becoming one of the developed southern African countries by the year 2020. (Times of Zambia)

--Zambia's biggest public university has welcomed government's decision to introduce a student loan scheme, saying it will improve the way the university collects user fees from students.

University of Zambia (UNZA) Vice-Chancellor Luke Mumba said the student loan scheme will allow the university collect user fees from the students quickly through banks.

The government has come up with a student loan scheme to replace the bursary scheme. The loan scheme will support about 2,000 students from different institutions of higher learning across the country to start in 2018. (Daily Nation)

-- Police in southern Zambia has ordered the arrest and prosecution of people who have failed to recognize President Edgar Lungu as winner of the August 11 general elections.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso said the directive comes in the wake of unconfirmed reports that some sections of society in the province still thought another government would soon come into place. (The Mast) Endit
