Shallow quake strikes off eastern Indonesia

Xinhua, November 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Shallow undersea quake with magnitude of 5.7 jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday, but there is no tsunami warning, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

The quake struck at 09:42 a.m. local time (0242 GMT) with epicenter at 86 km northeast Maluku Tenggara Barat and depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." Endit
