China's LeEco expands business in U.S. market

Xinhua, November 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese technology company LeEco has enriched its relatively sparse content lineup in the United States by partnering with AT&T and making video stream service available on its smartphones and TVs starting Tuesday.

On Tuesday, LeEco announced that it planned to offer up to 12 months of complimentary DIRECTV NOW access to customers who buy its ecophones or ecotvs before Jan. 5.

DIRECTV NOW is a new video stream service offered by AT&T, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the United States. Subscribers can stream their favorite TV networks and made-for-digital video content with more choice and flexibility on their tablets, smartphones or TVs.

The service will also be available on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Android mobile devices and tablets, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, among others.

LeEco recently aroused controversy by spending too much too quickly in its self-driving car project in the U.S., but the company said its expansion strategies in the U.S. market will not change.

Analysts said partnering with AT&T will help LeEco boost popularity, but there is still a lot of work to be done to build a brand in a saturated U.S. market. Endit
