S. African stocks close weaker Tuesday

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) all share closed 0.07 percent lower to 50,157.28 points on Tuesday, with gains in industrial shares failing to offset losses in gold mining and resource shares.

The Top 40 index was 0.03 percent weaker at 43,777 points. The Financial index, which benefited most from the rating agencies' decision, was again 0.1 percent higher after Monday's strong rally.

The South African rand was trading at R13.92 to the U.S. dollar, R17.37 to the British pound and R14.76 to the euro at close of trading session.

Gold had lost 0.54 percent to sell at 1186.47 U.S. dollars an ounce.

DRD Gold shares rose 6.27 percent to sell at R6.1, while Ascension Properties shares rose 5.81 percent to R4.55.

African Rainbow Minerals was amongst the biggest movers downwards, as shares slid 5.54 percent to R103.9. Stellar Capital Partners fell 5 percent to R1.52. Endit
