Indonesia's parliament speaker resigns, allowing party chief to retake post

Xinhua, November 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indonesian parliament speaker Ade Komarudin resigned from his post to allow his political party chief Setya Novanto retaking the post that the latter left over graft allegation implicating him late last year.

"As a member of the party, I want to put the interest of nation and party above my personal and family interest," Ade, a senior member of Indonesia's influential political party, the Golkar Party said to announce his resignation as the parliament speaker on Monday night.

Ade was appointed to become parliament speaker after the post was left by Golkar Party Chief Setya Novanto in December last year.

Setya resigned from the post following graft allegation related to share distribution of the United Sates-based mining firm Freeport Mc Moran operating in Indonesia.

Setya was assigned by Golkar party executive board to retake his post last week. Endit
