Fatah launches 7th party conference in Ramallah

Xinhua, November 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fatah party launches its seventh party conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah Tuesday with participation of 1400 members.

This would be the second conference that Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party holds inside the Palestinian territories. The last one was held in Bethlehem city in 2009 after 20 years of not holding it.

The conference spokesman Mahmoud Abu Al-Haija said Monday to Xinhua that 97 percent of the conference members are now in Ramallah and the remaining members are going to be arriving in the coming hours.

He said that "technical measures have delayed the arrival of the remaining members" negating reports about a ban imposed by Israeli or Jordanian authorities against them entering the West Bank.

The conference will last for five days and the elections will be held on the last day.

Abu Al-Haija said that the conference should elect 18 members of the central committee, the highest leadership committee in Fatah party, and 80 to 85 members to the revolutionary council, unless the conference decides to make amendments to that.

Islamic Jihad and Hamas movement announced Sunday that they will attend the opening session of the conference Tuesday. Endit
