Overseas tourists to Vietnam in 11 months surpass yearly target: statistics

More than 9 million person-times of foreign tourists are expected to visit Vietnam in the first 11 months of 2016, up 25.5 percent year-on-year and above the initial target of 8.5 million foreign arrivals for the whole year 2016, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) on Monday.

Growth was seen in most markets, particularly China, China's Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, Thailand, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Britain.

Vietnam's tourism sector grossed 368.6 trillion Vietnamese dong (16.2 billion U.S. dollars) in 11-month period, a yearly increase of 18.6 percent.

Vietnam aims to earn a total of 400 trillion Vietnamese dong (17.6 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue from welcoming international tourists and domestic travellers in 2016, said GSO. Enditem
