Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Saturday sent his condolences to Cuba after the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

"I express my sincere condolences to Cuba," said Fico, who announced he will attend the Cuban leader's funeral if he is invited.

Fico added that he wants to see "friendly, standard and mutually beneficial" bilateral relations between Slovakia and Cuba.

Fidel Castro died late Friday at the age of 90. He led the 1959 Cuban revolution that overthrew Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Fidel Castro had led Cuba for nearly half a century before stepping down in 2006 for health reasons. He was succeeded by his brother Raul Castro. Enditem
