Police detain man suspected of killing woman in retirement home

Xinhua, November 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police arrested on Friday a man suspected of killing a woman at a retirement home for missionaries in southwest France, news channel BFMTV has reported.

The man was arrested near his house in Saint-Mathieu-de-Trevier, about 15 kilometres from the retirement home, which he stormed on Thursday evening and killed one of its workers, according to BFMTV.

The suspect, a father of two children, is a former paratrooper and had previously worked at the retirement home.

A hooded attacker bound and gagged a 54-year-old woman at the retirement home on Thursday. After being stabbed for several times by the attacker, the woman freed herself and called police before succumbing to her injuries.

Investigators had identified the suspect after finding near the scene of the crime an abandoned vehicle, which contained false firearms, Montpellier prosecutor Christophe Barret said in a press conference.

No evidence suggested that the attack was linked to terrorism, according to the prosecutor. Enditem
