S.Korean farmers drive tractors to Seoul to hold rally for Park's resignation

About 1,000 farming machines, including tractors and other heavy machinery, are coming up to Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, to hold a protest rally on Friday for President Park Geun-hye's resignation.

According to TV footage, farming tractors and trucks are driving in rows, hanging up flags that read "Guarantee stable rice price," "Arrest Park Geun-hye" and "Park Geun-hye, step down."

The Korean Peasants League, a nationwide farmers' association, said in a statement that the agricultural machines left for Seoul 10 days ago from the countryside to demand the Park Geun-hye administration step down.

The queue of heavy farming machines are forecast to arrive in Seoul later in the day.

Police had banned the entrance of the heavy machinery to the capital city citing heavier traffic jam in Seoul, but a Seoul administrative court allowed it on condition that farmers do not carry out a driving rally on the road.

Farmers are scheduled to park heavy machines in the Sejongno Park, next to the Gwanghwamun square in central Seoul where Saturday demonstrations were conducted in the previous four weeks.

After the protest rally in the park, they are expected to march to locations near the presidential Blue House, in which the presidential office and residence are located. Endit
