About 127,000 people suffer from domestic violence in Germany last year

BERLIN, Nov.22 (Xinhua) - About 127,000 people suffered from violence in partnerships in Germany last year, 82 percent were women, according to official statistics released on Tuesday.
Heads of federal criminal police office (BKA) and the ministry of family affairs, senior citizens, women and youth (BMFSFJ) told a joint press conference in Berlin that the figures presented details about domestic violence in the country for the first time.
A total of 127,457 people in partnerships were victims of murder, physical injury, rape, sexual assault, threat and stalking in 2015, over 104,000 of them were women, according to BKA's statistics.
"Domestic violence against women, men or children is no private affair but crime, and must be tracked accordingly," said minister of BMFSFJ Manuela Schwesig. She has also appealed to break the "taboo of not talking about it".
"Victims of domestic violence often find themselves in desperate situation, and they are unnoticed," said president of BKA Holger Muench, calling on official and non-governmental institutions to offer aids to them. Endit
