Bangladesh remittances total 4.25 bln USD in July-Oct period

Some 10 million Bangladeshis living overseas in the first four months of the current 2016-17 fiscal year (July 2016-June 2017) remitted home 4.25 billion U.S. dollars, a central bank official said Sunday.

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) official who preferred to be unnamed said the figure for the same period last year was 5 billion U.S. dollars.

In the 2015-2016 fiscal year ending June, the inflow of remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for the nation, reached a record high of 14.93 billion U.S. dollars, the BB data showed.

Most of the income came from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Kuwait, Britain, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Singapore, Bahrain, Italy and Australia, according to the bank. Endit
