1st LD: Small plane crashes in south of San Francisco, killing one

A small plane crashed into a home south of San Francisco on Friday, with one dead and another wounded.

San Mateo County Fire Department said it received a report at 11:18 a.m. local time that a plane went down near the Half Moon Bay Airport, about 25 miles, or 40 kilometers, south of San Francisco on the U.S. west coast.

Fire crews responded to the scene at the edge of a residential neighborhood near the airport.

While details were sketchy about people aboard the plane and on the ground, authorities said one person was dead and another was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesperson Ian Gregor said the plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, is registered to a flying club out of Sacramento, the state capital of California.

Half Moon Bay, a coastal city of 17 square kilometers, is part of San Mateo County in northern California, with industries including agriculture, fishing and tourism. Endit
