Maintaining status quo of Russia-U.S. relations not to benefit Americans: Russian FM

Continuing on the current path of U.S.-Russia relations is not in the interest of the American people, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the Russia 24 TV channel Friday.

"The desire of U.S. President Barack Obama to continue the intensity of the relationship between Russia and the United States does not meet the interests of the American people," said Lavrov.

The minister said that after Jan. 20 of next year, President-elect Donald Trump will play an important role in the development of the relationship between Russia and the United States.

On the Syrian issue, Lavrov said that "everything depends on the problem of the inability of Washington to dissociate the opposition from the terrorist group 'Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.'" Endi
