Slovenia-Russia intergovernmental commission meets to review ties

Xinhua, November 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Slovenia-Russia intergovernmental commission on trade, economy and science began a two-day session on Thursday here to review bilateral relations and exchange suggestions to boost economic cooperation.

The intergovernmental commission was co-chaired by Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec and Russian Communications and Mass Media Minister Nikolay Nikiforov, while a series of working meetings opened to interested Slovenian businesses and is expected to last until Friday, according to the report by Slovenian Press Agency (STA).

Russia is an important trade partner for Slovenia, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry noted. It said, however, a downturn in trade volume between the two countries appeared obviously.

Although the relations between Slovenia and Russia are traditionally good and lively, Slovenia joined the EU sanctions against Russia, said the STA report.

Nevertheless, Slovenia has warned time and again that sanctions are also hurting EU member states' economies, the report said. Endit
