Day of losses takes Spainish stocks Ibex-35 to lowest level this month

Xinhua, November 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Spanish Ibex-35 benchmark stock market index on Wednesday ended a positive start to the week, declining 0.56 percent to reach the lowest level of the month.

The Ibex-35 opened on 8,687.10 points and closed on 8,635.80 points, a loss of 0.56 percent on the day's trading and an overall fall of 3.4 percent since Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. Presidential election a week ago.

A poor day's trading on Wall Street was partly responsible for dragging down the numbers on the Ibex-35, which had seen values rise to a value of 8,753 points before the opening in New York.

Wall Street's poor performance also affected other European markets, while in Spain the banking sector was hit particularly hard with CaixaBank (2.42 percent), Popular (2.29 percent), Sabadell (2.21 percent), Bankia (2.0 percent), Bankinter (1.15 percent) Banco Santander (1.08 percent) and BBVA (0.52 percent) all suffering losses.

Cellnex Telecom, with a 2.40-percent rise in share prices and Amadeus, which saw shares rise 1.61 percent in value, were the day's top performers. Meanwhile, the Spanish risk premium saw a 0.72-percent fall to 123.3 points, and interest on the Spanish 10-year bond stood at 1.53 percent. Endit
