News Agencies World Congress opens in Baku

The 5th News Agencies World Congress and the OANA General Assembly opened here on Wednesday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attending the ceremony, official media reported.

In his welcoming speech, President Aliyev said the country is proud of hosting such a significant event.

The News Agencies World Congress is held under the slogan "New Challenges for News Agencies" and addresses a wide range of issues, including problems of news consumption, the role of high technologies and social media in the news industry, problems of cooperation between news agencies and different social media platforms.

Speakers at the sessions include high ranking officials from the World Congress of News Agencies, Xinhua, Associated Press, Reuters, Anadolu Agency, TASS, France Press, Press Association, OANA, EANA, FANA, DPA and other leading news agencies and media companies.

Over the next three days Baku will be hosting gatherings of the world's influential media organizations -- the 5th News Agencies World Congress, the 16th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies and the 22nd meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of News Agencies.

Media events have brought together representatives of 190 news agencies from 80 countries, international media experts, UN officials, as well as representatives of regional media organizations. Endit
