Tokyo shares close mixed on gains lock-in

Tokyo shares closed mixed Tuesday as investors sought to lock in recent gains after a three-trading-day rise.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 4.47 points, or 0.03 percent, from Monday at 17,668.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 2.98 points, or 0.21 percent, higher at 1,402.98.

Gainers were led by banking, and warehousing and harbor transportation service issues, while decliners were led by pulp and paper, and marine transportation issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,588.6 billion yen (around 23.94 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
