Benin to host int'l open tennis tournament

Benin's economic capital Cotonou will hold the 3rd edition of the international open tennis tournament from December 5 to 10 aimed at promoting the best senior players from African countries, organizers told Xinhua on Monday.

At least 60 players from 15 countries mostly from West and Central African countries, as well as a European and a south-American country are expected at the tournament scheduled in Cotonou.

These are Togo, Gabon, Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Congo, Rwanda, Benin, France and Colombia.

"This tournament, expected to promote tennis across the African continent, will enable senior African tennis players to enhance their ranking at the level of the international tennis federation and to win prizes" tournament director Alphonse Gandonou told Xinhua.

Mr. Gandonou said the winner of the tournament will be awarded one million CFA Francs (1,662 U.S. dollars) ; the runner-up will have 500,000 CFA Francs (831 U.S. dollars) while the semi-finalists will be awarded 250,000 CFA Francs (415 U.S. dollars). Enditem
