he following are highlights of South African major media outlets on Sunday.

-- ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe allegedly "pleaded" with Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema to help him scupper President Jacob Zuma's Gupta-linked nuclear plans when they met to discuss post-municipal election coalitions. (City Press)

-- Two children have died after being struck by lightning in the Nongoma area in northern KwaZulu Natal. Their father sustained serious burns from the same lightning strike. (South African Broadcasting Corporation)

-- The African National Congress said on Saturday it wants to unite the organisation ahead of its 2017 elective conference to ensure the succession debate doesn't sow further divisions in the party.
