The ministry of commerce of Myanmar will upgrade the trade facilities of the country's border trade gates to meet Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) standards to promote trade, said an official of the ministry Saturday.
The ministry will implement the upgrading work through three phases.
Firstly, the staff assigned at the border trade gates will be promoted with a good salary. Secondly, the new technology will be installed to check and alert the restricted goods in order to prevent smuggling.
The third phase is to set one stop service counters for convenient transaction of commodities to enhance trade.
There are 15 border trade zones in Myanmar which link China, Thailand, India and Bangladesh. Of them, Muse border trade zone has the maximum trade value.
The total trade value through those border trade gates reached 4.32 billion U.S. dollars in the first seven months of this fiscal year 2016-2017 as of Nov. 4. Endit
