Floods, landslides in western Indonesia damage over 3,000 houses, bridges

More than 3,000 houses and 20 bridges have been damaged as floods and landslides hit West Java province in western pars of Indonesia, a senior official of local disaster agency said on Saturday.

Heavy downpours had triggered the waters submerged four sub-districts at Sukabumi district since Wednesday, Yana Rusiana, coordinator of emergency operating center at the local disaster agency told Xinhua by phone from the district.

The official said a total of 3,356 houses were damaged by the disaster and 1,498 of them suffered from serious damages.

"The transportation has been hampered as the landslides block some roads," he said.

But the natural disaster did not trigger evacuation, the official added.
