Ex-Uruguay striker Abreu joins Brazil's Bangu at 40

Xinhua, November 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Uruguay international striker Sebastian "Loco" Abreu has joined Brazil's Bangu at the age of 40, the Rio de Janeiro state-league club announced on Friday.

Abreu signed a one-year deal after completing a medical, according to Bangu president Jorge Varela.

"We made an offer to Loco Abreu and he accepted it," Varela was quoted as saying by the Globo newspaper.

Abreu was a free agent after parting ways with El Salvador's El Tecla, where he scored six goals in 15 matches this year.

Bangu will be the 24th club of Abreu's professional career, which started at Uruguay's Defensor Sporting Club in 1996.

It will be his second spell with a Rio de Janeiro-based side, having also represented Botafogo from 2010 to 2012.

Abreu was capped 70 times for Uruguay's national team and scored 20 international goals. Endit
