Spain to finally ratify Paris agreement

Spain's Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel Garcia Tejerina confirmed on Friday that the Spanish government would send the Paris agreement to be ratified in parliament "as soon as possible."

Spain has until now been not ratified the accord, which came into effect on November 5, as it had no effective central government for over 10 months.

The situation came to an end in October when Mariano Rajoy returned to power as prime minister at the head of a minority government, opening the door for the required legislation to finally be approved.

Garcia Tejerina explained in a press conference following the second meeting of Rajoy's cabinet that "the battle against climate change is a priority"for the Spanish government, and the Paris agreement would be "ratified as soon as possible."

She added that on November 15, Rajoy would attend the climate change conference which is being held in the Moroccan city of Marrakech from November 7-18, while highlighting the efforts currently being made in the European Union to fight the problem.

The minister said that Europe had shown that it is" able to grow while reducing emissions at the same time." Endit
