Singapore monetary authority unveils commemorative coin for Botanic Gardens

Xinhua, November 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Friday unveiled the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) UNESCO World Heritage Site Commemorative Coin to celebrate the inscription of the SBG into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, according to MAS in a press release.

SBG is Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only tropical botanic garden in the world inscribed into the list.

MAS noted that the coin design showcases various elements that contributed to the success of SBG's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the rubber trees with herringbone incisions; Bandstand, the iconic landmark of SBG; as well as the Tiger orchid.

The elements are featured in vibrant colors and intricate engravings against a shiny surface, within an outer sandblasted rim. The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2016.

The coin will be issued on Nov. 29 and can be purchased individually or as a coin set, added MAS. Endit
