Two key commanders of the Taliban group were among 52 militants killed in Shindand district of the western Herat province, senior army commander in the western region Raz Mohammad Oryakhil said Friday.

"Two Taliban key commanders namely Mullah Nayeb and Mawlawi Mohib are among 52 armed rebels who have been killed in crackdown against enemies in the troubled Shindand district since Thursday," Oryakhil told Xinhua.

Mullah Nayeb and Mawlawi Mohib, according to the official, were notorious Taliban commanders and their physical elimination is a major setback for the armed outfit in Herat and adjoining areas.

Taliban militants who are in control of parts of Shindand district and adjoining areas haven't commented. Endit
