Cambodia welcomes 3.5 mln foreign tourists in 9 months

Xinhua, November 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodia received 3.5 million foreign tourists in the first nine months of 2016, up 4.8 percent over the same period last year, according to a tourism report released on Friday.

During the January-September period this year, Vietnam topped the chart among the top 10 arrivals to Cambodia with 695,670 tourists, up 0.1 percent, followed by China with 577,280 tourists, up 12.5 percent, and South Korean visitors at third with 263,880, down 11 percent.

The Southeast Asian country is famous for two cultural sites in the UNESCO's World Heritage List. One is the 12th century Angkor archeological park and the other is the 11th century Preah Vihear Temple.

Besides, it has a number of attractive eco-tourism sites, including a 450-km pristine coastline stretching across four provinces in the country's southwestern part.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting the economy. Last year, the country greeted 4.78 million international tourists, earning a gross revenue of more than 3 billion U.S. dollars. Enditem
