Spain calls for Celta forward Aspes as Costa pulls out of squad

Xinhua, November 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spain national team coach Julen Lopetegui on Thursday called Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspes into his 25-man squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying match at home to Granada on November 12th and friendly away to England at Wembley on November 15th.

Aspes replaces Chelsea forward, Diego Costa who has been forced to withdraw from the squad as the result of a thigh injury which has been troubling him since playing against Everton in the English Premier League at the weekend.

The call-up is a reward for Aspes' excellent start to the season which has seen him score six goals in 11 league games for his club, following on from last season when he scored 18 goals in 40 appearances.

Apses will compete for a place in the starting 11 on Saturday against Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata and Athletic Club Bilbao's veteran forward, Aritz Adutiz, who a week ago scored five goals in a Europa League tie against Belgian side, Genk. Endit
