Pacific legislators to tackle regional challenges in New Zealand

Xinhua, November 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Lawmakers from 17 Pacific nations and territories will gather in New Zealand next week to discuss the major issues facing the region.

The New Zealand Parliament would hold a special debate on Pacific issues on Nov. 17, New Zealand Parliament Speaker David Carter said Thursday.

The 40 delegates to the Pacific Parliamentary Forum would gather on Nov. 18 to debate climate change, Pacific resources, security and governance, and Parliament and the community, Carter said in a statement.

"This is a great opportunity for the parliamentarians to meet with New Zealander parliamentarians on major issues in the Pacific. It will serve to share knowledge of key issues and parliamentary practices, and enhance parliamentary democracy in the Pacific," he said.

The Pacific Parliamentary Forum would be held from Nov. 14 to 18 in Auckland and Wellington. Endit
