There is hope for progress in resolving the humanitarian issues in Donbas in the near future, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Special Representative Martin Sajdik said here on Wednesday.

"I am glad to note improvement in the climate of resolving the humanitarian issues. I hope for progress in this field," Sajdik told reporters following negotiations.

Sajdik informed the sides also discussed the situation in the checkpoint near Stanytsia Luhanska, as well as opening of new checkpoint in Zolotoe. "This is a very sensitive issue, especially for the elderly, and we hope to make progress on this issue," he said.

Sajdik believes in withdrawing forces and equipment that will help to solve humanitarian problems.

He said that the political subgroup discussed modality of the local elections in Donbas and, in particular, the Steinmeier formula about the special status of the territories that are uncontrolled to Kiev.

The official said that the next meeting of the contact group on Ukraine will take place in Minsk on 23 November. Endit
