A boat with about 130 Syrian refugees on board drifted off the northern coasts of Cyprus and a rescue operation is under way, Cypriot police said on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said the boat was spotted mid-day northwest of Kato Pyrgos, a fishing and resort village on the northwestern coast.
