Nine candidates to compete for chairmanship of Indonesian soccer association

Xinhua, November 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of nine candidates comprising a retired general, active military officers and professionals, are to compete in an election on Thursday for the 2016-2020 chairmanship of Indonesia's soccer association, a senior official said here on Wednesday.

Azwan Karim, secretary general of the association (PSSI) said that the process to pick up the new leader of the association would be conducted transparently as the association wants a strong legitimacy of the result.

"We want many parties to monitor this process. So all of them, including media will be able to supervise and monitor the process directly," Azwan said.

So far, Leut. General Edy Rahmayadi is the strongest candidate as he is supported by majority of the participants, he added.

In addition to the election of the chairman of the PSSI, Thursday's meeting would also elect a deputy chairman and 12 members of executive committee, said Azwan.

The PSSI has been freed from FIFA sanction, which had exiled it from international events, as it has insisted to conduct a reform on the organization. Endit
