Indonesia opens 85th Interpol General Assembly in Bali

More than 1,200 representatives of member countries of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) gathered Monday in Indonesia's resort island of Bali to discuss coordinated efforts in combating crime and terrorism.

The 85th Interpol General Assembly, under the theme "Setting a Global Roadmap for International Policing", would discuss global police measures to address cybercrime, terrorism and organized crime issues.

"Police are facing tougher tasks in every corner of the world nowadays. The current Interpol assembly is expected to produce concrete solutions, not just ceremonial event," Indonesia Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in his remarks to open the assembly held in Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center.

Interpol President Mireille Ballestrazzi and Interpol Secretary General Juergen Stock were seen among senior delegates attending the opening ceremony.

Indonesia deploys more than 3,800 security personnel to secure the event that would run until Nov. 10.

Interpol, the Lyon, France-based global police organization is now joined by 190 countries. Endit
