1st LD: Premier Li puts forth five major proposals for "16+1" practical cooperation

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday attended the Sixth China-CEEC Economic and Trade Forum in Riga, Latvia, where he put forth five proposals for expanding China-CEEC practical cooperation in a keynote speech.

In light of the slower-than-expected world economic recovery and lackluster global trade, Premier Li noted that the five proposals included scaling up two-way trade, accelerating efforts for greater connectivity, promoting cooperation on production capacity, exploring innovative modalities of financial cooperation and tapping the potential for tourism cooperation.

Li arrived in the Baltic country of Latvia on Friday morning, continuing an eight-day Eurasia tour that has already taken him to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

He also joined a meeting here between the heads of the governments of China and 16 central and eastern European (CEE) countries, or the "16+1" summit.

This is the first time for a Chinese premier to visit Latvia since it declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

The trip will also take the Chinese premier to Russia. Endi
