U.S. DoD awards missile contract to Raytheon

Xinhua, November 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

The U.S. Defense Department said Friday it has awarded a missile contract worth 178 million U.S. dollars to defense contractor Raytheon.

"Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Arizona, is being awarded a $177,929,800 firm-fixed-priced, cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded contract for the procurement of Evolved Seasparrow Missiles," it said in a contract release.

Raytheon will provide 186 all-up rounds, inert operation missiles, spare components and other production-related support, the Pentagon said, adding part of the weapons will be sold to Spain, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

The release also detailed that some missiles will be produced in foreign countries including Germany, Turkey and Greece, among others.

The Evolved Seasparrow Missiles, designed especially to ward off supersonic anti-ship missiles, are used to defend ships from missiles and aircraft. Endi
