Xinhua, November 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday on concerns over recent corporate earnings data here coupled with jitters as the U.S. presidential election draws closer.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 184.69 points, or 1.08 percent, from Wednesday to 16,949.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 16.33 points, or 1.19 percent, to 1,352.11.

With the exception of nonferrous metal issues, every industry category on the main section retreated into negative territory in early trade, with transportation equipment, insurance and mining-linked stocks comprising the most notable decliners.

Tokyo markets were closed Thursday for a national holiday. Endit
