U.S. asks citizens in India to stay alert over possible terror strikes

Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

The U.S. Embassy in Delhi has asked Americans in India to stay alert and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness, citing media reports of the Islamic State's desire to attack targets in this country.

"Recent Indian media reports indicate ISIL (also known as the Islamic State)'s desire to attack targets in India. The U.S. Embassy warns of an increased threat to places in India frequented by Westerners, such as religious sites, markets, and festivals venues," the American Embassy said in a statement Tuesday.

"All U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness as detailed in the State Department's Worldwide Caution of September 9, 2016," it added.

Though it has not yet been linked to any terror attacks in this country, The Islamic State has made its intentions clear of launching terror attacks in India through its bases in neighboring nations.

Moreover, several dozen Indians, mainly from the states of Maharashtra and Kerala, have reportedly travelled to Iraq and Syria to join the organisation and several more were apprehended before they could leave India. Enditem
