Vietnamese province wants rail route linking with China

Xinhua, November 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Vietnamese province of Lang Son has proposed the Vietnamese government instruct the Transport Ministry and other relevant ministries and sectors to quickly construct a rail route linking with China, local media reported on Wednesday.

Under the future project, a high-speed rail route will run between the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi and Lang Son's Dong Dang town, and be linked with China's railways to facilitate cargo transport, daily newspaper Tuoi Tre (Youth) reported.

According to the authorities of the northern border province, the current Hanoi-Dong Dang rail route allows trains to travel at an average speed of only 50 km/h, too slow compared with the speed of trains in China's border localities.

The authorities proposed the project be implemented in the 2016-2020 period.

The Vietnamese government has recently tasked the Transport Ministry to complete a feasibility study of a project on building a high-speed rail route linking the northern region with the southern region, so that the Prime Minister can approve it next year. Endit
