Tokyo shares open lower on U.S. election uncertainty

Tokyo shares opened lower on Wednesday amid increasing uncertainty over the U.S. presidential election.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 198.11 points, or 1.14 percent, from Tuesday to 17,244.29.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dipped 17.00 points, or 1.22 percent, to 1,376.19.

Decliners were led by nonferrous metal, insurance and real estate issues. Endit
