Saudi king dismisses finance minister

Xinhua, November 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud dismissed the country's finance minister on Monday, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The royal order replaced the finance minister Ibrahim Al Assaf with Mohamed Al Jadaan, the chairman of the Finance Market Authority, and reappointed him as a state minister.

The dismissal came as the country is facing financial complications caused by dropping oil prices and austerity measures that involve cutting salaries of ministers and top officials.

Heads of key organizations, such as the Food and Medicine Authority and Public Transportation Authority, were also shuffled in similar royal orders. Endit
