Ukraine develops four projects to enhance Asia-Europe connectivity

Xinhua, October 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ukraine together with international partners is developing four infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the connectivity between Asia and Europe, the country's Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Viktor Dovgan announced here on Friday.

"I hope that the result our work will be the formation of a clear and transparent system of cargo transportation, which will effectively promote the development of economic relations of all interested countries in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe," Dovgan said during a conference "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR)-- realities and prospects."

The first project is designed to combine routes from Ukraine's Black Sea ports, which serve ferries running to Georgia, with the Viking and the Zubr trains, which transport cargo to the countries in Northern Europe, Dovgan said.

According to him, the second scheme is intended to establish a cargo transportation corridor via Ukraine, connecting Poland with China, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Next is the organization of containerized cargo transportation from Asian countries to Hungary, Austria and northern Italy through Ukraine, the official said.

He added that the fourth project is aimed at establishing a logistic link in Ukraine between Iran, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Central Europe.

In May, Ukraine has officially joined the TITR, which connects China with Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The TITR corridor, part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, uses railway, maritime and road transport for transportation of goods. Endit
