The following are news highlights of leading Nigerian media outlets on Thursday.

-- President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday inaugurated the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative, saying the worst of the Boko Haram insurgency was over.

Buhari said an estimated 20,000 persons were killed, an estimated 2.4 million displaced as well as billions of naira worth of personal and public assets destroyed by the insurgency. (Daily Trust)

-- On the heels of the Federal Government's plan to borrow 29.9 billion U.S. dollars over the next two years, the Debt Management Office (DMO) has said that there was an urgent need for the Federal Government to formulate an economic blueprint or road-map for the medium term.

DMO made the observation in its 2016 Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) report released Wednesday in Abuja. (Vanguard)
