Local authorities in Aubervilliers, northern Paris suburbs, on Wednesday paid tribute to Zhang Chaolin, a Chinese textile designer who died after being attacked in August in the French city.

The local authorities unveiled a memorial plaque on the incident's scene "to honor the memory of Zhang Shaolin, to honor women and men who are victims of racial prejudice," Aubervilliers city hall said in a press release.

"The tragic attack had triggered emotion, sadness and indignation as a racist targeting is added to villainous motive," it added.

Zhang Shaolin, 49, died in August after five days in a coma. He had been mugged in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers by three men who stole his bag.
