Australia's Dreamworld reopens on Friday with planned memorial service

Xinhua, October 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Australia's largest theme park Dreamworld will reopen on Friday, two days after a tragic accident that claimed four lives, forced the park's closure for investigations.

Dreamworld's parent company Ardent Leisure said the park will reopen at 11:00 local time and will be hosting a memorial service in partnership with the Australian Red Cross as a mark of respect to the all four victims.

Two women, 42-year-old Cindy Low and 32-year-old Kate Goodchild along with Goodchild's brother Luke Dorsett, 35, and his partner Roozbeh Araghi, 38, died after the Thunder River Rapids water-raft ride flipped backwards on Tuesday afternoon.

"The Memorial Day activities will be limited to smaller rides, animal attractions, and the water park," the company said in a statement issued late Wednesday evening.

"Australian Red Cross volunteers will be available throughout the day and we hope other local religious leaders will attend."

"Further details regarding the Memorial Day will be released in the near future," it said.

The Gold Coast theme park is closed on Wednesday and Thursday following the tragic event which has been described as the worst theme park disaster in Australian history. Endit
