Customs officers in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday spotted nearly one ton of African elephant tusks hidden in two containers.

Hundreds of tusks worth over 40 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 1.8 million U.S. dollars) were hidden among timbers in the two containers at Cat Lai Port in the city, municipal Customs Department said.

The goods were imported from Kenya and in transit in Vietnam before exported.

Earlier, on Oct. 6 and Oct. 21, the city's customs officers spotted two similar smuggling cases, confiscating a total of over 2.5 tons of elephant tusks. Endit
