Apple Inc. made public on Tuesday that its sales of smartphone, tablet computers and personal computers were down in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2016 compared with the same period a year ago.
Releasing financial results for its fiscal 2016 fourth quarter, which ended September 24, 2016, Apple said it sold 45.5 million units of iPhone, 9.27 million units of iPad and nearly 4.9 million units of Mac computers during the three-month period, down 5 percent, 6 percent and 14 percent from the 4th quarter of the previous year.
The technology company headquartered in Cupertino, northern California, reported quarterly revenue of 46.9 billion U.S. dollars and quarterly net income of 9 billion dollars, down from 51.5 billion dollars and 11.1 billion dollars respectively from the year-ago quarter.
International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter's revenue.
However, Apple claimed that revenue of its services business was up 24 percent to reach over 6.3 billion dollars, setting an all-time high record.
"Our strong September quarter results cap a very successful fiscal 2016 for Apple," said Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive officer, in a news release. "We're thrilled with the customer response to iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch Series 2, as well as the incredible momentum of our services business." Endit
