The WMF was initiated by 27 makers in Kaihui town in March 2015. According to Liu Xuanqi, one of the founders, Kaihui means "inception of wisdom". The Kaihui forum will mainly focus on the businesses of rural makers, promote resource interconnection and discuss innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities in the countryside. The forum believes that rural areas are the wellspring of Chinese culture and have the biggest opportunities for makers. The aim is to build a world class maker brand starting from the countryside.
