Kuyt earns Feyenoord late draw in Dutch Classic against Ajax

Xinhua, October 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Dutch league leaders Feyenoord drew 1-1 against rivals Ajax on Sunday in Rotterdam, keeping a gap on the table of five points.

Feyenoord, which had won the first nine matches of the season, was the better team in the first half, but wasted several chances. Bilal Basacikoglu had the best opportunity as the forward failed to beat Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana in a one-on-one situation.

In the second half Ajax took control and in the 55th minute the visitors from Amsterdam scored. Hakim Ziyech crossed and Kasper Dolberg found the net after the 19-year-old striker beat Feyenoord defender Jan-Arie van der Heijden.

Feyenoord pushed Ajax back in the final phase and got the goal they wanted in the 85th minute. The 36-year-old captain Dirk Kuyt earned his team a draw in the most classic match of Dutch football, the first encounter between the long-time rivals this season.

After their first draw of the season Feyenoord now lead the standings with 28 points after ten rounds. Enditem
